Cameron and his friend

horse HORSE

Cameron = HORSE!

Cameron knows I'm just messing with him...if we played real basketball, he'd kick my ass but good!

HORSE

My best line of Mary's wedding weekend...to Cameron (after defeating him in basketball and as he was having post-wedding photos made...

"Smile and say 'HORSE.'"

Doggie Day

I'm so pissed off at them!! I just got back from Biloxi and found no water in the bedroom, no dry food in the kitchen bowl (the cats don't eat that much per day), no cat milk at all put out, and who knows what else not done. I doubt that Sue's had any medicine, either.

Usually Jerry's the one who gets back from a trip first. And last time he reported the same types of problems, from the same caretaker. He won't be coming back to our place.

(I'm glad I came home from vacation a week early, since I had to put Sue to sleep just one week later, the day after I was originally to return. I'd've never gotten over it if I'd come back on Saturday to find her at death's door.)

braces

bracesI didn't even know there were braces in the 1920s. But, honestly, they don't look that much different from the ones I had in the late 1970s!

Harry Potter's Wicca ways!

From today's Metro: "Mom wants schools to ban Harry Potter"

ATLANTA: A suburban county that sparked a public outcry when its libraries temporarily eliminated funding for Spanish-language fiction is now being asked to ban Harry Potter books from its schools.

Laura Mallory, a mother of four, told a hearing officer for the Gwinnett County Board of Education on Tuesday that the popular fiction series is an "evil" attempt to indoctrinate children in the Wicca religion.

Kids mustn't use their imaginations...evil, evil, evil!

"shall" versus "will"

A favorite example to clarify the two:

"I shall drown, no one will save me!" is a cry of despair, simply predicting imminent death: both are simple futures. "I will drown, no one shall save me!" is a suicide vow, a declaration that no one had better try to stop me.

fortune cookie

I can't remember if I ever posted this here, but the best fortune-cookie fortune I ever saw was one Jerry got a few years ago...

The greatest love of all is self love.

Hey HEY hey!

my favorite soap...

Pears Pure Care Cleansing Bar
...has been discontinued...shoot, and probably a few years ago. Aagh. Now I've got to go to eBay and try to find more. If you come across and Pears Pure Care Cleansing Bar soap, I'll buy it from you!

Which is in 15690 days time.

white shoes in October?

Aagh, I found out today that I needed to have a pair of white shoes for my sister's wedding on the 14th. Where am I supposed to find white shoes, in October, in New England? Fortunately, eBay and Amazon came to the rescue. Thank God for the Internet!

white shoesSo it's between these two pairs, the one above and the one below. Now that I think about it, I don't think I can manage 3-inch spike heels, not having any previous experience with something that precarious! Plus, standing on the balls of my feet for that long? Sounds like a mistake.

Sue news

Well, I hope Sue's doing a little better now. The vet gave her the SSRI Remeron to try to help stimulate her appetite. And some pacreatic enzymes to help her digest her food more effectively. And a subcutaneous IV kit. I think it took Jerry's and my giving her a couple of Goober's cortisone pills to calm her stomach enough to get her to finally eat some. I hope the sickness tide is turning for her now, especially since I'm going to Biloxi next weekend...and Jerry a few days later.

most difficult classes

I was trying to think of the most difficult courses I took in college. Here's what I came up with:

  • music theory and harmony: Holy Momma! And I don't remember anything about it anymore, unfortunately
  • Bach counterpoint: part of this might've been because I'd already gotten into medical school and was about worn out with college. My only C in college. It didn't help that I turned in a 16-measure-, 4-part fugue one class late (so I could finish up the last two measures) and saw my grade on the project go from a B to a D!! :-(
  • biochemistry: I had to scrape out a B, but thought it'd help to take this before I was assaulted with it in medical school
  • logic: I took this as an elective, along with Jerry, and barely scraped out a B. Jerry's still not over taking an elective and getting a C in it!

Mancester PB at the Celtic Classic

This year's Celtic Classic (Bethlehem, PA) 2d-day medley competition, the last of the four times we played over Saturday and Sunday. The band got third overall, and the drum section second overall.

Jesus Christ, what an ass I have! :-(

blood test

Well, Sue's blood test came back pretty normal, so I don't know what's up with her. The vet can do some x-rays and/or ultrasounds, to try to find out why Sue is getting so thin. Could be that her digestive tract isn't properly absorbing nutrients. We'll see.

Sue's diary entry on Catster

I set up a page for Sue on Catster. Here's the diary entry I wrote for her:

Catster banner
I think I'm in trouble, so I need you to keep your fingers crossed for me. I'm getting older, I know, but I'm not ready to go yet. But I don't have much appetite all of a sudden and I've lost two of my previous 9 pounds. So I'm all skin and bones right now. I'm waiting to hear back from my doctor about what's wrong with me. I hope it's not too bad news. I know my "parents" are worried about me, especially since they're supposed to go out of town next weekend.

Sue

SueSue's sick. She's lost 2 of her previous 9 pounds, which isn't good. And her appetite is beginning to wane, which also isn't good. I'm waiting to hear back from her vet about blood tests. He thinks she might have hyperthyroidism. I hope Sue will be all right. But she is about 17 1/2, so I guess it could be getting to that time.

The timing of Sue's sickness is so bad, just as Gomer's was a couple of years ago. I have to go out of town next weekend. Oh, I hope she'll get better before then...I hate to have to board her for a week and a half. But if she's still sick, I'd be scared to leave her alone.

"Go Harvard" or "We Suck"?

We Suck!?

I was at last year's Harvard/Yale game (someone gave me free tickets) and thought something was going on...honestly...though I figured that it was MIT up to no good, as they're wont to do around this time of year! ;-D

I didn't hold up a piece of paper, but am still in this picture somewhere! Good one, Yale!

"Twilight Zone"

I've been TiVo'ing The Twilight Zone episodes lately. A lot of the stories are interesting, but I'm completely flabbergasted at how over-the-top bad the acting is! Unless the acting has no hope against the horrific writing. And don't get me going on the "special" (ed, I suppose) effects and plot holes. Still, though, some of the stories are interesting...for instance, "Walking Distance" is very well done and moving.
